We have a sword warrior in Heaven
Joshua Michael Schmiedicke
July 26, 2001 - July 8, 2006
Last night I attended the wake/prayer service for Joshua Schmiedicke. In a packed church, following the rosary and Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary, his mother spoke beautifully of his short life. For almost fifteen mintues, she held us spellbound as she told us about the story of his birth, his relationships with his 2 brothers and 3 sisters, his love for his grey rubber sword, the train tracks he would build every morning, his persistence in asking for what he wanted, and his theological questions. "Though he was your younger brother, he is our older brother now", she told her children as she reminded each one of them individually that Joshua would always be with them, looking over them.
I was especially struck by Regina's comment that her worst fear had always been that she would hit a child with her car. I remembered my mother saying the same thing after my sister drowned many years ago - that her worst fear had always been that one of her children would drown. My mother reminded me that God gives us our greatest fears so that we know we have nothing to fear.
"I command you to be firm and steadfast! Do not fear nor be dismayed for the Lord, you God, is with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:19

Please pray for the Schmiedicke family. Regina and Andrew Schmiedicke's son Joshua died Saturday when the famiy car accidently backed over him in the parking lot at St. John the Baptist Church in Front Royal. He died as CPR was being administered.

Sorry
I apologize for the lack of posts recently. I've been very busy between school work and going home last weekend. Now, it's time for mid-terms. I have a take home test due next week, and another in class test on Wednesday. And, I have to find time to research for my 3 papers. I can't believe I'm already half way done with classes!
I was feeling a little badly about not having time to write, but then I noticed that Hobbs hasn't posted a thing in over a month... .
If you can spare a moment, say a quick prayer for me that my studying goes well.

Happy 4th of July!
I went to a 4th of July concert in the East Park in Worcester last night, ending with the traditional playing of the 1812 Overture and fireworks. It was a perfect night for an outdoors concert. Thank you to our founding fathers for signing the Declaration of Independence in July!
I met a young Italian woman in the park, spending a few months in America doing an internship. It made me wonder....does any other country in the world celebrate their birthday with as much excitement and noise as we do?
I just love our loud, extravagant birthday celebrations!
