The Beheading of John the Baptist
I love being Catholic! Where else do you celebrate the beheading of a saint!?
Collect:
God our Father,
You called John the Baptist
to be the herald of Your Son's birth and death.
As he gave his life in witness to truth and justice,
so may we strive to profess our faith in Your gospel.
Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son,
who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Church of England and the Eastern Orthodox Church also celebrate this feast.
In the Eastern Orthodox Church, the day is always celebrated as a fast day, even if it falls on a Saturday or a Sunday.
Eastern Orthodox traditions for the day include eating no round foods, serving no food on a plate or a platter and refraining from the use of knives.
